L11: What's your Mindset?
You might have heard the terms 'Growth Mindset' or 'Fixed Mindset' already in the Fellowship or maybe even before that. In this section, we are going to discuss these mindsets in detail and see how they are related to not just leadership but generally in our life as a #LifeLongLearner. At this point, you might be wondering what a Fixed Mindset and a Growth Mindset even mean. For starters, we’ll give you a quick definition of what both of these terms mean and then let us deep dive into these with a video.
GROWTH MINDSET
A Growth Mindset is “the understanding that abilities and understanding can be developed”. Those with a growth mindset believe that they can get smarter, more intelligent, and more talented through putting in time and effort.
FIXED MINDSET
On the flip-side, in a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort.
Let’s watch this video below to get a better sense of how both of these mindsets can affect how we think. While you watch the video observe your thoughts and feelings: in which mindset are you located most of the time, and what is the connection between your mindset and the results you get in life?
REFLECTION QUESTION:
Before we move forward, we are curious to know what you think your current mindset is - do you have a Growth Mindset or a Fixed Mindset?
