Project 1: A Gift Overdue 🎁

At Amal, we believe that a genuine compliment is the least expensive yet one of the most powerful gifts you can give someone. We believe that it is an act of leadership to put those good thoughts into words, and let the people who inspire those good thoughts in your mind know. Compliments belong to other people, why keep them with you?

Goal: To understand and practice the power of gratitude by identifying people in your life who have helped you, and document your experience with this act of leadership.

Steps:

  1. Identify 1-3 people in your life who have helped you in a way that left an impact on your life (perhaps who gave you Lollipop Moments :). Think of at least 1 person but the more the merrier. Also try to think of the people whom you might not have thanked before.
  2. Identify specific actions/incidents about these people that you love, or that you would want to thank them for.
  3. Try to be as specific as possible. E.g. instead of just saying β€œYou have helped me a lot” be more specific like β€œI love your ability to understand what other people might be going through, and help them feel listened. You helped me last October when I was in a very tough situation and you listened to my problems…”
  4. Craft a creative, handwritten letter for these people and be as creative as you can in this process. E.g. you can make cards with ornaments and decorations, add pictures, or do/make anything that expresses your sentiments the best.
  5. You can include the following in your words: A brief introduction of yourself (if needed), specific things that you like about that person, how has that person helped/inspired you, key lessons that you have learnt from your experience with them, any personal notes/words of gratitude you want to include
  6. Deliver your letter to the person(s). It should ideally be in-person but if that is not possible, send it through courier services.
  7. Take pictures of your gratitude letter, write a blog on this experience and include these pictures in your blog. If you get a response from the person before you write your blog, you can also include that in the blog and how that made you feel.

Include a link for your blog (that includes the pictures of your letter) in your project work document.
