L3: Authority versus Responsibility

We know what you're wondering now - how do I assume leadership without being in that role or having the title? Let's see how Seth Godin, a well-known entrepreneur and blogger, answers this interesting question.

Seth talks about Acumen's Fellowship Program in the following video - the program brings together a cohort of extraordinary individuals from around the world working on problems of poverty and equips them with the knowledge, skills, and community to strengthen their leadership and create meaningful change. This is the same program that brought Benje (Co-founder of Amal Academy) to Pakistan.

In the video Seth Godin uses the power of taking responsibility to assume leadership, thus explaining why having authority is not important to lead in everyday life. Sometimes, all it takes be an agent of change is taking initiative and making that first move, where everybody else is waiting for orders or someone else to come and fix the problem.

 REFLECTION QUESTION:

Seth Godin shared real life examples of how certain people took lead on projects and tasks, without being given the authority over it. In the same manner, can you think of any past experience when you led a group of people without having the official authority to lead them? What helped you in taking the lead?
